I recently won an e-bay bid for Transformers the movie on DVD. A fantastic film in itself which deserves another post. I haven't watched it yet 'cos i'm using it as a carrot for thesis writing. But it did inspire me to hunt down the soundtrack though.
If you like 80s hair bands and cheesyness you will LOVE this album. You can practically hear the hair. Cheesy power ballads, 80s style guitar solos, keyboard effects the works. Think Europe (of final countdown fame) mixed with cartoon robots and some Van Halen style and you're somewhere close.
Even though I haven't seen the film for a long time (I lost my VHS copy a few years ago I was devastated) the music takes me back to the scenes from the film. I can even see and hear the action including the script and the sound of the laser fire. The death of Optimus Prime track still brings a slight tear to my eye.
This is the first time I've heard the full tracks and not just the parts played in the film. I have to say they all rule in their ultimately cheesy way.
If you love cheese and the like seek out and hunt down this album it rules.
Heres the tracklist:
The Touch: Stan Bush
Instruments of Destruction: NRG
Death of optimus prime: Vince DiCola
Dare: Stan Bush
Nothings gonna stand in our way: Spectre General
Transformers Theme: Lion
Escape: Vince DiCola
Hunger: Spectre General
Autobot-Decepticon Battle: Vince DiCola
Dare to be Stupid: Weird Al Yankovic
It makes me want to seek out other stuff by Stan Bush (power ballads) and Vince DiCola (think Mark Snow but in a cheesy 80s way)
