Did anyone see last nights episode of bad lads army? It had a guy in his late teens that had the guts to refuse to go into the chaple services on grounds that he was a LaVeyan satanist. Most of the kids on the show have behavioural problems or criminal records and are there to try to change there ways or were sent there in the hope that it would. This kids only crime seemed to be being a satanist. It sounds like he'd explained it quite well to his mum but she still didn't like it. she said 'I think its something to do with looking out for yourself but I think it might be at the expense of others.' So instead of grousing about her son's beliefs why not try reasoning with him that having some consideration of others does benefit you too. Don't try to enforce morality on the lad try to teach him why you have particular morals. You may even learn something about yourself in the process. The lad did get out of the service and ended up painting kerb stones instead. After trying to explain his beliefs to a rather unsympathetic RP sergeant.

I love that show! I can't believe I missed that. (I was viewing mah new crib in Edinburgh ;D) I wonder do they still try to make soldiers go to church. That show is all about instilling the values of the army of the 1950's in the lads and there wasn't much room for negotiation back then, so they were just adhering to the script. It's only now that religious and cultural diversity is encouraged, even though I think people are still as narrow and scared of each other as they always were. But Satanism is never really going to lose its 'unnacceptibility' is it? Either because it sounds childish or because it sounds evil. It's funny though because I would have thought that that environment is the perfect environment for the Satanist. It's certainly more Satanic than christian. Those are not christian values. Well done to the guy for standing up for himself. How has he performed on the show in general? I hope that as a Satanist he has been perfect aside from that. It's all about fulfilling your potential, pushing yourself and accepting violence as a fact of the human condition.
