The Council of 13 of the Society of the Onyx Star would like to announce the creation of a new program for the year 2004ce. In order to keep balance and unity between the Paths of the Philosopher and the Initiate, we have decided to institute a suggested overall theme of research for each year. Each member of SOTOS is invited to actively study and discuss the theme for their personal growth. Chantries, Orders, and other SOTOS gatherings will also be encouraged to hold activities related to the theme. The results and findings will be published in an intra-organization compellation, at the start of the following year, which will include articles, essays, rituals and works of artistic expression that explore the theme.
On April 8, 9, and 10th of this year will be the 100th Anniversary of the writing of the Book of the Law by Aleister Crowley. Between the hours of 12:00 – 1:00 pm in 1904ce, Crowley was dictated the book by Aiwass the "minister of Hoor-paar-kraat" in Cairo, Egypt. The term Thelema was uttered as the "word of the law" and is the Greek word for Will. Crowley understood it to be the Aeon Instituting Word for the Aeon of Horus. The Left Hand Path is a path of "Willed Evolution" and thus makes Thelema a very important concept for both the philosopher and initiate alike. We invite all our members to take active roles in learning about and understanding the Year of Thelema.
*Suggested beginning readings on Thelema
The Book of the Law by Aleister Crowley
Magick in Theory and Practice by Aleister Crowley
The Holy Books of Thelema by Aleister Crowley
The Magick of Thelema: A Handbook of the Rituals of Aleister Crowley by Lon Milo DuQuette
