Well with Dani and Helen doubtful and with me having to buy food today and drying up my finances further I feel it neccesary to cancel this meeting.
Hopefully I can find employment in the near future and we can re-arrange an alternative meet up.
If you guys do get some time and you're still in the London area Guildford is about 30-45 minute train journey from Waterloo. Feel free to give me a shout and see if I'm free. I'm still free everyday of the week except next weekend.

10th July anyone? I have an emergency credit card now so I can make a train trip to London. I got an e-mail from a new person from the south east so it will be a good oppertunity to get to know her and give her a feel for what SOTOS is about. I'm very keen to get offline interaction going again.

Hi everyone. I did end up going away that weekend and couldn't get on line to tell you. I'm really sorry to hear about your mum Dani. I hope she'll be OK. Let us know. I can't do July 10th. I'm in Scotland for my man's birthday. The best thing for me is heaps of notice because I can't ever go at the drop of a hat. But I realise that is impossible for others.

Well The Coach Trip Is To "London" That's All I Know...
I Don't Know London That Well - I Thought Westminster Is Where The Bus Will Be Taking Us.
My Father Says I'll Probably Get off The Coach In Victoria Station - But I Don't Even Have A Clue Where That Is Either!

hey dani filth ;D the coach'll probably get into Victoria Coach Station which is a short walk from the main rail/underground station itself (just head north up Buckingham Palace Rd & it'll be on your right) you can check out transport maps including one of the Tube, info on the Coach Station and a journey planner, at Transport for London's website www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/check out their tube guru website too, it's pretty useful! tube.tfl.gov.uk/guru/index.aspyou'd do well to get around by tube if you wanna see the sights - you can get a travelcard for zones 1/2 (central area), it costs £4.40 I think, which works out cheaper if you're gonna do a number of journeys cos a single in zone 1 costs £1.60 these days. Camden Town's in zone 2 on the Northern Line if you get time to head up there it's gotta be worth it! hope you have a great time! Debs

Hey Dani, A mini A-Z and a tube map should be all the help you need. That's how I learned. Get those first. They are available at WH Smith and most cornershops and newsagents. You should be able to get them at Victoria but ask someone who works there where you can get them.
Learn the tube. It's much easier than it looks. Your A-Z should be able to tell you the name and location of the tube nearest to where you want to go. I spend most of my time in London at Camden Lock (market). Exit the Camden Town tube station on the right hand exit, and walk up to your right until you see a big bridge with 'Camden Lock' written on it. Under that bridge and to the left is lots of cool stores and stalls, and you can get nice cheap servings of noodles at the foodstalls. My favourite shop is 'Dragstrip' next to The Black Rose goth emporium. The lock is a bit of a maze if you aren't used to it but it's not that big. Ask directions from stallholders if you get lost. I believe Stu posted directions to the Dev. Shopping and noodles at the Lock and a drink in the Dev. Charming!
I recommend a trip to the British Museum to see John Dee's scrying stones, which should still be there, and there's loads of other cool artefacts, especially if you like Egyptology. And it's all free! Holborn tube is nearest. Exit that. It has two (i think) different exits and they are round a small corner from each other. Look for a big Sainsbury's across a road. Walk towards that and straight ahead past it, and keep going straight ahead. Eventually you should pass 'the Princess Louise' on the left. It's a pub and its upstairs is a well-known meeting place for occultniks, mainly of the 'white' variety, on Tuesdays I think. But it's mostly just full of normal folk. Anyway Museum Street is a right turn off of that road and near the Princess Louise. Museum Street has a famous occult bookshop on it that I heard Crowley frequented. At the top of Museum Street is the Museum. Can't miss it, it's gigantic.
For Soho you want the Tottenham Court Road tube. It has many exits but don't worry. None of them are far from each other. There are some perfectly cool pubs on Old Compton Street and some very good value Italian restaurants. The Stockpot is unbeatable for 'Sunday roast' style food. The A- Z can direct you to Old Compton Street better than me but it's dead easy to find.
Study your A-Z with discretion or you'll stand out as a tourist. Most people in London have no manners so remember to not take it personally. Work out from your A-Z, at your own pace, where you want to go and then single-mindedly march there. You should be perfectly fine if you prepare and if you don't prepare, don't worry. You'll be able to retrace your steps easily enough.
Aside from that have a blast and let us know how you get on!

Equally well, if you are not confined to Westminster because of any sort of commitment, it's very fast and easy to scoot around on the tube to the more interesting places. You'll have a better time if you are able to explore the stuff you want to see, and that should be easy peasy with a tube map and an A-Z. It's usually a matter of following signs and reading the map. If you need glasses, wear them. You need to be able to see where you are going. Sounds obvious but I made the mistake of leaving mine behind once. Don't let the size and noise of London put you off. Work at your own pace. It may be huge as a city but it's actually more like a collection of smaller areas not too far from each other. Holborn and Tottenham Court Road tubes are just a stop away from each other (walkable distance) and they, in turn are not a long tube ride from Westminster. From Westminster Station get the Jubilee line (grey line) northbound to Bond Street and at Bond Street station change to the Central line (red line) and travel eastbound two stops to Tottenham Court Road. One more stop east from Tot. Ct. Rd. is Holborn. Now I don't know about you but if you are anything like me, all of that 'station-northbound-eastbound-Jubilee-Bond Street- Central line' stuff sounds as clear as mud from where you're sitting right now, but it will become really obvious what it means from all the signs in the tube stations when you are there. Take down all these directions if you like and that will give you something to start with. Give it a go. You'll thank me.

Debs is dead right about the value of a 'zone 1 and 2 Travelcard'. You can buy those at ticket desks and ticket pay stations in the underground stations. Any doubts, go to the ticket desk and ask for the Zone 1 and 2 travelcard. And you're flying.
Sorry if I'm over-egging the advice pudding here, but I know what it's like to go to London without knowing it too well. I don't mean to patronize or anything, but I wish someone had told me all of this when I went first time. You'll be fine Dani.
